I think what’s holding Delphi back is its being tied to Windows too tightly. There’s still no .net implementation for Mac, which means if you want to do Delphi work (Delphi > 8), you’re really tied to .NET Inprise did introduce Kylix for a while there, to try to capture the Linux market with support for Delphi-written applications, but it never really took off (Can’t say I’m surprised, given the attitude of Linux-zealots and the type of applications/development you typically see done for Delphi).
The thing about Delphi is that it *still* produces the fastest running compiled code, of any compiler in existence - quite a crazy feat.
