Desperate to blog
I don’t know if this blog’s going to go the distance right now, but I’m desperate to blog something.
I have a Dlink DI-624+ wireless router at home. I had previously locked it down with WPA security so that passwords were required, but I also whitelisted the MAC addresses it would accept connections from. I have been very happy with it.
This weekend I tried to add another laptop to the whitelist. I spend way too much time trying to get it working. While the router may work fine, it’s not exactly designed to be configured easily. The settings I needed were in the Advanced tab, under Filters. Then click the “MAC Filters” radio button. I added the new MAC address, but still no go!?
After tweaking for ages, I tried the Status tabs Device Info button and clicked the “DHCP Renew” button. That was it. For some reason, even after getting all other settings right, and getting each of the computers on the network to renew their DHCP lease, the router did do anything. It needed for me to hit the renew button on the router itself.
Now everything is huming along just fine. But it was too dificult.
