iPod II

Quick follow up post about the new iPod.

On the whole, I am tremendously happy with the iPod. What I’m not happy about is the quality of the ear bud headphones. At first I assumed the poor quality was because I’d received a defective set, but when I took them back to the shop, they “tested” them and said they were no different from any of the other ones. I was told the headphones are not the strongest part of the iPod. I take this to be a coded message saying “the headphones are crap.”

Apart from that, I’ve been able to copy my entire music collection (at least everything that is on my laptop in iTunes), ~10 hours of video, and back up the entire user directory from my laptop onto the iPod and it’s still only half full.

The picture quality on the video is also vert impressive. I have often and loudly bagged the idea of wanting to watch video on a postage stamp sized screen, but the resolution of this thing makes it very watchable. Yes it’s small, but it’s clear enough that I don’t feel I’m missing much of the content.

I got a new iPod :)

Yes, I just picked up my new 80gig iPod classic (Sliver).

Not much to say about it yet, but it sure is nice being able to tick the “Sync all” button and not worry if everything will fit.

It’s taking a while. USB 2 is fast, but not *that* fast. Looks like it’s about two thirds done. Then I’ll get on with playing with it properly.

I’ll also need to find something to convert my divX collection to something playable in the iPod…

[later…]

Sync complete. Updating iPod software. Hmm, version 1.0.1 released 2 weeks after the product hits the market?

permissions

Perhaps I’ve been living in widows land for too long, but I just got stung by unix permissions. Must remember to set permissions before testing the new web site.

“But the code looks fine! Where did I go wrong?”

“Oh yeah. Apache can’t write to that folder.”

sudo chown ...
